Rheumatology

The Rheumatology service of Fort Belvoir Community Hospital is a specialty consultative clinic with a focus on patients and their family. The clinic’s physician staff cares for adults age 18 and older. 

The patient population is comprised of active-duty service members and their dependents as well as retired military members and their dependents. 

The primary center of Rheumatology is located at Walter Reed National Medical Center which communicates in a collaborative setting to provide the optimum care for the patient and family. The service’s credentialed physician staff evaluates, manages and treats those patients with rheumatic diseases. 

Initial access to the Rheumatology Service is via referral (consult).

Specialty Services

  • Disease and Medication Education Management of corticosteroid induced osteoporosis, interpretation of immune studies for autoimmune diseases, and management of DMARDs and biologic therapy.
  • Medication Injection Therapy, Medication Infusion Therapy, Joint and Bursa Aspiration/Injection
  • Evaluation of soft tissue disorders, degenerative arthropathies, metabolic diseases, crystalline induced disorders, connective tissue diseases, inflammatory arthritides, infectious arthritis, vasculitides and inflammatory myopathies
