Fairfax Health Center opens
Fort Belvoir Community Hospital Public Affairs
FORT BELVOIR, Va. (July 9, 2012) – Fort Belvoir Community Hospital’s Fairfax Health Center opened today at its new location after summer storms knocked out power and delayed its scheduled July 2 opening.
Dominion Power restored service to the new facility at 10580 Arrowhead Drive Thursday, and the medical staff began completing final preparations and installation of equipment to open the new clinic.
According to the medical transition team, the clinic’s refrigerators and freezers required a minimuim of 48 hours to continuously run before personnel could validate the equipment and begin storing temperature-sensitive products.
The transition of healthcare services from the previous clinics in Fairfax and Woodbridge to the new locations in Dumfries and Fairfax began June 22. The storms and several power outages did not impact the transition of Woodbridge to the new Dumfries Health Center at 3700 Fettler Park Drive, which opened July 2.
Medical services at the Fairfax and Woodbridge family health clinics relocated to new locations to improve clinical efficiencies, provide services in more modern facilities, and increase access to patients by offering services near interstates, major highways and public transportation. Additionally, the previous contract ended and a new contract was competed and awarded to Spectrum Healthcare Resources. The change in the contract and transition of medical services necessitated a move to the new sites.
